Customer Review
When I began my clerkships, I found myself without an efficient way to take notes during rounds and lectures. It seemed as though my only options were to carry around a regular clipboard or try to write everything in a notebook small enough to fit in my white coat.
When carrying a clipboard, I constantly had to put it down in order to perform physical exams or procedures. This cost precious time and also presented to risk of exposing confidential patient information if the wrong person were to glance at it while I was engaged in something else. Also, almost nothing is more embarrassing than having the papers on your clipboard spill onto the floor during a presentation or during rounds.
On the other side of things, carrying around a small notebook is great for quickly scribbling down notes without the problems associated with carrying around a full sized clipboard. However, I found those notes difficult to organize and integrate with handouts and other documents that were on full sized (8.5″x11″). In addition, the smaller notebook did not provide an adequate writing surface for standardized progress reports, orders, and other forms.
Then along comes the White Coat Clipboard 2.0. It solves the problems of both the regular clipboard and the small notebook, with the additional complement of having some common lab values and other algorithms conveniently printed on the outside. With this product, I could take notes on full sized filler paper, while also carrying forms and handouts.
The bottom line on this product is two fold; First, it makes organizing notes, forms, and other documents that you will be flooded with on the wards infinitely more efficient. Second, being able to fold it and drop it in your white coat pocket allows you to make a better transition between taking notes and having both hands free to perform exams or procedures. If nothing else, it will convey to your patients, supervising residents, and attendings that you are organized, and an integral and capable part of the team, rather than a scribe.
In my opinion, this is one of most important things you can have on the wards along with Maxwell.
